Miss Holiday bought gardenias from her, from then on, she wore gardenias on her hair.

Billie Holiday (born Eleanora Fagan;^[1]^[2] April 7, 1915 – July 17, 1959)^[3] was an African American jazz singer, songwriter, and actress. Nicknamed "Lady Day" by her friend and musical partner Lester Young, Holiday had a seminal influence on jazz and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. (Wikipedia)

Now, Billie Holiday is still beautifully singing the blues, still wearing gardenias, at times biting and chewing on them from time to time.
